Are You Stuck?

June 21, 2017

One of the hardest lessons I learned about being stuck was that the muck I was stuck in was of my own making. Yes, I had had my own share of tragedies – loss of a job, loss of important relationships, no real plan for my future. Then one day, as I sat on my couch dug deep from weeks of sulking in the quicksand I called a life, she appeared. The symbol of my core: Guilia - daring, adventurous Guilia - “goodbye boring, hello life!” she announced as the Alpha Romeo raced along the road, edging each turn like a master race car driver, zooming towards her destiny. “That is me! not this waste of a person on the coach.  She is me. I love adventure, new challenges, new love stories, new places to go and new people to see – I want to fulfill my bucket list."

A new freedom swept over me as I realized it was all within my reach. I just had to grab for it. Intuitively, I knew that I had to leave Denver and replant my life near the sea, the mesmerizing sea. My longing for sunsets amidst crashing waves upon a shore didn’t need to be a forsaken dream. I didn’t have to long for it anymore. I could have it all now.

I made a decision to move to Tampa and once that decision was made, things just kept falling into place. Tampa needs Corporate and Life coaches, as well as experienced Realtors.   All those licenses I believed wouldn't so easily transfer to a new state wasn't the case this time.  Whenever I would want to move, I thought I could never replace the view I awaken to every morning. The sunrises are breathtaking.  But the serenity of that view had grown cold as the shadows of my past traumas haunted me  I could choose to be a victim for my entire life or I could choose to be a survivor who thrives and  lives out her dreams.

I will keep you posted on my journey  during the next 5 weeks. But what are your dreams? What is on your bucket list? What is holding you back? What is it going to take for you to take your own “leap of faith” and dive into your future?

Important questions that only you can answer. Dig deep within your soul and find that invisible power that makes your life have meaning, purpose, balance, fulfillment. Create the life that YOU want to awaken to every morning.

Take good care and have a grand day.

A wise mentor of mine once told me that he was the most successful in his business during times when he was in the flow; Welcoming new relationships, keeping in touch with old relationships, reaching out to friends and clients to learn about new members of the family or new life events. Being in the flow connects you with what is happening in your sphere of influence and makes it natural for you to reach out to people you know who may know other people who can help you grow your business.

I look back over patterns in my life when I wasn't in the flow.  I continued doing the same old things but expecting different results. I felt frustrated, bewildered, not sure of what my next step should be. But when I was in the flow, I was open to new experiences, new challenges.  new people and could be patient until the right time for change came along in alignment with the flow of life.

Nature has a flow, the changing of the seasons, the summer winds and rains that bring fresh air and new life; The hot summer sun sizzling with temptations to just sit a spell and be one with the sunshine as it sparkles on my face. To take the time to listen to the fountains surrounding the pools of water as I am floating, at one with what it means to feel... to be alive.

When I try to control the flow, events and people control me. But if I let go and allow myself the space to listen to my own heart, that inner voice always knows when it is time to propel myself forward and when it is time to just let go and let life be. May you be in the flow today.

Take good care and have a peaceful day!

True romantic that I am, I refuse to settle. I am searching for a man who is open to sharing his heart, mind and soul with me. Someone who will look into my eyes and see vitality, an open heart, an adventurous spirit who longs to travel the world, take moonlit strolls along the beach, walking hand in hand into our destiny as we travel down the road we call life.

Too much to hope for or so my friends say. But I know in my heart that romance will come just when the time is ripe for a new love to come into my life. I’ve been patient. Trying to go with the flow. And now I’ve had a sneak peak of what a whirlwind romance with the man of my dreams might be like when I arrive in Tampa. So, I will keep you posted on this new chapter in my life as it unfolds.

Always hold fast to your dreams. In the end, material success doesn’t matter that much.  Instead  focus on how open you are to a connection with another person. How deep are you willing to go to share your heart with someone meant just for you? Don’t miss the opportunity for love when the door opens. Step right through and never look back. Be mindful and open to the love that surrounds you.

Take good care and have a grand day.

Our world is filled with people, places and things that try to control us.  Sometimes you simply need to acknowledge that you have no control over these events, let go and change your perspective about your reactions to such people, places and things.

But what if you can control what is happening to some extent? How do you decide when to step up and be your own best advocate and when to let go and follow the flow of life.  For me, I have to decipher if taking action will lead to a productive win-win solution for everyone involved or will simply be a reflection of my own frustrations and hidden agenda.  Built up resentments do not cause your enemy to change their behavior. All resentment does is eat away at your serenity and cause you to be miserable.

Forgiveness and wishing only the best for the person you resent will allow you to let go of your resentments.  Amazingly, the act of forgiveness frees up the other person from simply reacting to your blaming and clears the way for them to start to realize their own part in the problem and act differently.

That is why forgiveness is a gift to YOUR HEART.  Have a heartfilled day!

In order to transform your life, you have to be willing to open yourself up to being part of a natural progression. Pinpoint where you are weak and you will gain insight into how to steadily rise up and gain a more prominent position by becoming a stronger force. The image is like the light of the rising sun, which at first appears dimly through the mists. But this relatively weak light later radiates with powerful clarity once the sun has reached a high position in the sky.

Progress is made when even from a subordinate position one can create harmony with those above them in rank, and in so doing create a natural means for collective talents and abilities to blossom. By recognizing and riding with the natural course of events, one can advance their position and earn respect.

Goodness in human nature is like the dim but beautiful early morning light. It can easily be obscured — by greed, hatred and other forms of self-absorption — just as the morning light can be swallowed by fog. Be reminded that progress is achieved most effortlessly when the right action is taken without concern for immediate reward, and when the path of weaker align with those of the strong.

Ready to Launch! It is just hours now until I board the plane to Tampa for the first time. The feeling is one of wonder, intrigue and exhilaration. Having grown up on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers I know what humidity feels like. I have savored the hot, dry heat of Denver.  But Tampa has ocean breezes to temper the hot humidity (I hope) and as all women know, humidity is great for the skin. I try to find the positive thread in the most challenging life circumstances.

I look back over the last month, and it truly does feel like I have been launched into a new dimension. I can hear the rocking sound of the waves echoing in my head. I can see the natural beauty of an ocean sunset so vividly that I feel like I am there already. I can feel the sugar sand as it tickles at my toes, and the sea water splashing on my face. I feel alive. I feel exhilarated.

I recently took a brain assessment test, and it showed that I scored high on resilience. What is resilience? Scientists have found that this one trait above many others determines how we react to stress and how quickly we rebound from defeats. I have often thought of the image of the phoenix rising from the ashes time and time again. I have pulled myself up by my boot straps and carried on with finding my life’s passions, even when faced with the most dire of circumstances.  That is the meaning of resilience according to Webster’s Dictionary (the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.)

Now I stand at the brink of new adventures, new relationships, new people, places and things to be challenged by but with a willingness to rise above the stress and soar towards my dreams. Only time will tell if my dreams are realized. But with a positive attitude, how can they not?

Be ready to launch yourself into a new tomorrow!

Take good care and make it a magnificent day!

I am back from Tampa after my little excursion to step closer to my dreams and what an incredible place it is going to be to live; Bridges over magnificent waters everywhere. Sugar sand beaches, jet skiing, watching the sunset over the ocean vista while treading in crystal clear waters. Then onto a yoga mat to stretch to the rhythms of the sea. Clearwater Beach is quite the place to visit if you have never been there. So is Sarasota, Florida, and nearby Siesta Beach.   Sail Port Beach off of Rocky Point Road was a wonderful place to stay and I even got to do some jet skiing at the Westin at Rocky Point.

Where I am going to live is better than I had envisioned. I can see old Tampa Bay from my screened-in porch and the place is appointed with elegant crown molding, 9 ‘ ceilings, cream colored walls and a gourmet kitchen. Yoga studio, ballet bar, friendly neighbors who like to hang at the pool and barbecue at the newly upgraded Viking Grills.  I  even have a storage closet in my place for golf clubs, a bicycle, and my skis.

Colorado will always be in my heart and I know I will return many times to see the Fall Colors and make my traditional trip up the winding mountain side of McClure Pass  to where the Aspen trees are incredible. Only an hour and a half drive from Denver and well worth the trip.  Skiing in Breckenridge will also be a pleasure to do once again during the Holidays.

My incredible news is that I may have a job offer in St. Pete’s Beach which is just over the Gandy Bridge. What a site it was to make that drive, realizing that I might get to do it every day and land a dream job of inspiring Realtors to Aim Higher. "Promotions by Patti" was a marketing company that I ran and many of my clientele were Realtors needing a “Phrase that Pays” to launch their businesses and brand themselves with a tag line. Some of my most successful marketing came from branding myself with tag lines like Patti “knows how” to sell Willow Creek, Moving Denver to New Heights, Moving Denver into a new Decade (coined in 2000). What fun it will be to create new tag lines for Newbie Agents in St. Pete's Beach looking for creative ways to build a book of business and be inspired to aim higher.

And so the move to Tampa is just 20 days away, and I know that all the pieces of my life are falling into place as I align myself with the flow of life, trusting that all will be well in the end, and that my higher self has my back, even when my back is not as limber as it used to be when I was a gymnast for the University of Denver Gymnastics Team in college.

So how can you inspire to aim higher?  Envision your life flowing in a sea of abundance. Find your own unique path to the life you want to wake up to every single day. Trust in the process, and trust that your invisible power will always guide you to the answer to every problem you encounter as you walk the road we call life.  May your journey on that path be inspired.

Have a magnificent day!

Today I wait with baited breath until my move to Tampa, knowing that I have very high expectations for what it will be like to live, work and play in such a spectacular setting. HIgh expectations can sometimes be my downfall. While it is exhilerating thinking about  how the move seems to be in allignment with my higher calling, I have to remember that although the setting has changed, I bring my own expectations to the forefront of my thinking.  Am I discounting the people, places and things I am likely to encounter in the Tampa Bay Area that may push my buttons?

When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation - some fact of my life - that is unacceptable to me.  I can find no calmness until I accept that this person, place, thing or situation is being exactly the way it is supposed to be at that moment.  I need to be mindful about not concentrating on what needs to be changed in the world but instead place my focus on what needs to be changed in me. I must discard any attitudes or old beliefs that are blocking my growth.

When I awaken with an attitude that I am surrounded by beauty and abundance, I have a grand day. When I allow the squirrels in my head to rattle around and around,  going no where fast, I have a disjointed day and no real problems get solved.  Instead, if I focus on the answers to the problems, the answers come to me intuitively.

A hot button for me is other people's self-absorbtion; it seems to grow more prominent the more I am annoyed by it; when I focus on people's inner radiance, they seem to grow up, mature and glow with inner knowledge of their own self-worth.

Perhaps the best thing of all for me is to remember that my tranquility is inversely proportional to my expectations. The higher my expectations of other people, the lower my peace of mind. When I discard my expectations along with my 'rights' to have such expectations. my level of calmness increases. I calm myself down by asking "How important is it, really? How important is it compared to maintaining my integrity?  To continue on my path towards finding my mission, my life's passion?"

When I keep my magical magnifying mind on whether or not I have maintained some level of acceptance, I know what my next step should be. When I remember this, I know in my heart that my every need will be fulfilled.  I must just trust in the process and allow my invisible power to be my guide.

So what do you need to do to be open and accept what is ? How can you accept what is really happening vs the stories you want to tell yourself about how you want it to be?  Only by appreciating that change is a process do we begin to realize that inner harmony is simply a reflection of what is happening at this very moment.  It is only our reaction to it that we can control   So, it's the weekend..  just relax... let go.  Enjoy yourself.  Let the sunshine sparkle on your face to bring out your own inner radiance.

Take good care and have a day filled beauty and abundance!

Saying Good-bye

I recently learned that three of my most important life mentors have passed away. It is difficult to understand and accept that I had become so involved in my new career in early childhood education and coaching, that I had disconnected from my friends and colleagues in real estate, a career I loved and thrived in for nearly 30 years of my life.

One day I called one of these mentors on their office phone to ask for an updated letter of reference and was told that this dear mentor of mine had died six months earlier. I was so dismayed that I had missed his funeral. I really do miss him and am glad I get the chance to honor him at memorial ceremony in a few days at Keller Williams, DTC where Bobby grew this company to be the Number 1 Real Estate Company in Denver.

In an attempt to reach and say good-bye to the rest of my dear friends from real estate, I called to arrange a luncheon for the group and found out that two more of those friends had also died in the last few months. Time is so precious. I always thought I have enough time to tie up loose ends with the people, places and things that made my life so rich and fulfilling in Denver.

The memories of all those real estate retreats in the mountains – Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Estes Park, the ski trips, all the things that we did as an office at Remax Masters and Prestige Real Estate Group that made us #1. We would recharge our energies and look back upon the last year of our businesses with coaches, and consultants and team building exercises - learning new things together like country line dancing and fishing - to help us be inspired to come up with a new and improved strategic plan for how to generate business in the coming years.

I will miss all the things that have made Denver a special place to live. I remember stepping off the plane in a bright purple coat prepared for the winter storm I had seen on TV in St. Louis. But instead of a blizzard, I was greeted by crystal white snow, bright sunny skies. I changed my clothes about five times a day until I realize that I had to dress in layers.

I grew up from that adventurous young lady who was done with the Midwest and wanted to conquer new horizons as she ventured forth into the town of Denver, knowing no one. And Denver welcomed me with open arms, giving me an incredible education, a chance to be in graduate classes in Psychology as an Undergraduate; Meeting one of the great loves of my life, marrying him, raising our precious daughter here together where an hour away awaited a new adventure, skiing, picnicking among the Aspen trees, going down to the Broadmoor every Easter because that’s where the Easter Bunny, lived to be in the Easter Parade. Or heading up to the North Pole, along the cog railway, because that’s where the “Real Santa Claus lived.”

Yes, Denver has been a great place to raise a family, and to grow from a young 18 year-old girl to the strong and resilient adult woman that I have become. It is hard to let go, and say good-bye to the first place I lived that thrilled my heart from the moment that I walked off that plane.

Thank you Denver for the morning sunrises that always brightened my day. Thank you for the vista mountain sunsets that warmed my dusks. Thank you for letting me be part of the growth of our “small cow town” to one of the most vibrant, sophisticated, and forward-thinking cities in the nation. Only ten more days to appreciate my home since 1971 - Colorful Colorado – my purple mountain majesty.

May you find the time to say goodbye before the moment passes you by. Reach out to your friends and have a heartfelt day!

Change

July 24, 2017

Change, according to Webster’s dictionary, is to make or become different. Being in the midst of change myself – literally moving from Denver to Tampa in a matter of days - I’ll be changing the scenery, changing time zones, changing climates, venturing onto the road, a single woman driving through the country side of my old home towns in the Mid-west. I’ll be seeing the home of Elvis, onto the deep South of Georgia and then arriving at my new home in Tampa after making the 1,850-mile trek towards my future.

Why is the process of change so exhilarating on the one hand and so unsettling on the other? Progress is impossible without change. It is the essence of life – to be willing to surrender who you are now for who you can become. Perhaps it is hard because we are giving up the known for the unknown; Giving up all that we have worked so hard to become, in the hopes that this change will allow for a metamorphosis into a more refreshing and more vibrant lifestyle. Change is like a butterfly that dances to the rhythms of the sea, still mindful that its beauty is something worth valuing no matter when or where it lands.

Only when emmersed in the waves of change, do we find a new direction. Only in the wake of change, do we come to know when it is time to start something new and learn how to trust in the magic of new beginnings, new ideas, new challenges, new triumphs. Only by experiencing these fully can we start to realize that the seeds of change are all around us. The sizzling 95-degree temperature in Denver will soon become crisper and cooler, as the autumn leaves start to turn their shades of gold, orange and red. The rainy season in Tampa will turn into the most glorious of winters. with crisp blue skies and the most magnificent of sunsets.

It is up to me to greet these changes with an open heart, an expansive mind, and a determination to make this next chapter of my life the most invigorating, thought-provoking, and peaceful time of my life.  May your life be filled with new beginnings, new challenges, and new dreams.

Take good care and have a fulfilling day!

Tomorrow is the day I have been anticipating…the moving van is coming. I will be hitting the road on the way to my new tomorrow. Though faced with the same trials and tribulations  that every human being faces on this journey of life, trust me when I tell you that making a long distance move is not easy. There are scammers everywhere ready to take you to the cleaners.  But now that things are finalized, I see all of it finally coming together. I am moving to a city with sugar sand beaches and bridges that overlook waterways dotted with sail boats and wind-surfers. A city that offers hope and allows my mind to soar on the wings of possibilities.

I look back now at some of the limiting beliefs that were my own self-imposed barriers to greater fulfillment. I can laugh at the things that used to baffle me and feel proud of myself for never surrendering to defeat. My brain is wired to have a winning mind set that allows me to see the glass as half full, or even more apropos, to be overflowing with abundance and good-will.

Optimism is a lens that allows for expansion and endless possibilities. It has given me the courage to take off to a city unknown to me with the hope that it will lead to prosperity. But hope is not optimism. Hope is the conviction that regardless of how things turn out, the greater good will be part of the outcome and because of that will lead to something even more spectacular.

Right now I am filled will all the hope I can muster that my decision to move to Tampa is the right one.  I can sense that it seems to be leading to a course of action that makes sense.  My hope is that I will land that dream job that will utilize my training and talents for the greater good. It is so exhilerating to be starting anew.

May your dreams be over-flowing with good will. May your rivers run deep with life. Stay focused on making your life exciting from the moment you wake up to moment you lay your head down to rest.  Be filled with  satisfaction that you have lived a productive, meaningful and heart-felt day.

Good-bye my Colorful Colorado.  May all those I have touched and will touch be like the bead of water whose ripple effects can be felt for miles around.

Take good care and have a glorious day!

I have arrived safely in Tampa and cannot believe that I have finally realized my dream of living by the ocean, the mesmerizing sea. I have spent thousands of dollars visiting the ocean so that I could stick my toes in the sand, appreciate the beauty of the ocean’s ebbs and flows along with the waves of excitement and adventure it always provided my spirit. It is hard to believe that now it is all free to me. I feel so blessed.

Water has always soothed my soul and provided a rhythm to my existence, an inner peace that is in harmony with the life force. It awakens an inner knowing about when it is time to stretch myself and my life goals and when it is time to just enjoy the here and now. I look out my window and see the grass huts, sugar sand beaches and the glimmering waters of dawn. There is such a feeling of peace and tranquility but also of anticipation about what the day will bring. New beginnings are never easy or without pain. Contraction precedes expansion. Darkness comes before dawn. Joy follows pain. This is the way of things.

I look back on my life with fond memories of snow capped mountains of Colorado - all the difficult good-byes, the leaving of people and things that are familiar for memories yet to be created. Starting afresh is invigorating but also unsettling. Opening the window of your mind to allow the fresh air in, the new lights to sparkle and new truths to be learned is not easy. It is a time of expansion, of stretching oneself to meet challenges unknown.

I will move forward, embracing the new experiences, the new friendships, and the new possibilities. I will try to be open-minded, and not resist change. As stated so eloquently by Socrates “The secret of change is to focus all your energies not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

May your life be filled with new challenges, new beginnings, and the willingness to take risks to live the life you have always wanted. Take good care and have a fun filled Saturday!

Progress is made when even from a subordinate position we create harmony with those above us in rank, and in so doing create a natural means for collective talents and abilities to blossom. By recognizing and riding with the natural course of events, we can advance our position and earn respect.

Goodness in human nature is like the dim but beautiful early morning light. It can easily be obscured — by greed, hatred and other forms of self-absorption — just as the morning light can be swallowed by fog. As I shake off the negative energy brought into my life by my marvelous 20 something thieves, I read one of my quotes for the day written weeks before it was posted: “Forgive the past. It is over. Learn from it and let it go. People are always changing and growing. Do not cling to a limited, disconnected, negative image of a person of the past. See that person as they are now. Your life is always changing and growing.”

I truly do believe in the adage that what goes around comes back around. One of the thieves is in jail while the other professes his innocence. Whatever you create with your actions, thoughts and words will circle back around to either haunt you or inspire you. That is why I have tried not to live with bitterness. It is like acid to my soul and eats away at my spirit. Instead I try to forgive those who have wronged me and be willing to look at my own part in the problem.

I know I am too trusting in the essential goodness of people. When two young men close to my daughter’s age offered to help me out, I saw them as hardworking millennials who wanted to come to the rescue of a woman around their mother’s age. How they charmed their way through their scam is perhaps a testament to how desperately they needed their needs met or a reflection of total self-absorption and sociopathy. "You were such an easy target to scam."

I must shed the whole experience and not bring it with me into the present. Today I will go have lunch at the Opal Sands Hotel where for $20 you can have your car parked by the valet, have a light lunch at their outdoor bistro, and then head out to enjoy the hidden gem of Opal Sands Beach, one of my sister’s and her husband’s favorites spots for romantic getaways. I will envision the man I am welcoming into my life who will enrich my enjoyment of this incredibly romantic city and its beaches.

May your heart not be filled with bitterness. May you be willing to always look for your own part in the problem and be willing to learn from your mistakes and FORGIVE. It will make your heart happy. Ask yourself, "Are you living a life you can’t wait to wake up to every single day?" Or do you need a life coach to help you find an easier path to greater joy? Just reach out. I will be there with you on each step of your journey until you feel empowered enough to continue alone with a much clearer vision, armed with new tools to use to achieve greater fulfillment.

Take good care. The weekend’s almost here! Open yourself up the love that surrounds you and have a heartfilled day!

Tomorrow I am going to be reunited with my adult aged daughter whom I haven't seen since she got engaged last November around Thanksgiving.  It will be so fun to show her all around this incredible city of Tampa, Clearwater Beach, Rocky Point, and all my favorite spots to watch the sunset - Oyster Catchers at the Grand Westin, Spinners at St. Pete's Beach, the Dreamview Hotel in Clearwater, and my most favorite of all, Opal Sands Beach.

I also want to explore new things with her like the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, parasailing, a boat cruise.  It is such fun to be planning our Labor Day weekend, which also coincides with the day my mother was born, September 2nd.  How proud she would have been at the mature lady that you have become my darling daughter.  You both share the same Jewish name "chia" which means life.

My life in Tampa is so different than my life in Denver.  In 30 minutes I can be at the beach, tour the coast line, and be dining on fresh seafood nearly everywhere.  I am still amazed at all the beautiful bridges I cross when headed towards the ocean, Gandy Bridge which is very close to me, Courtney Causeway which takes me straight into Clearwater, and the Franklin Bridge which takes me to Bellaire Beach and all the tiny little beach  towns that are so quaint.

Live life to the fullest and treat every day as a gift.  Take good care and take a moment to show your gratitude about the things you do have in your life.  Happy Labor Day Weekend.

Life is filled with miracles and it is up to me to be open to receiving them.  As I said goodbye to my daughter, I was overtaken by the depth of my love for her.  How special it was to have face to face time with my soon to be wed daughter, to learn more about her dreams, her new interests and how important it is to cherish each moment we have together.

I must live in the present and open new doors to opportunity.  I must be patient. “Timing can be everything and wisdom requires the patience to wait as well as the courage to leap when the time becomes right.”  I must stand fast in my belief that no matter how hard the struggle, it is the challenges and my victories over them that make me stronger, allow me to create the necessary changes in myself to allow for more transformation in the future.  The only real journey is the one within.

Do you know how to create a new path forward that will allow you to remain patient as well as willing to fight to achieve the life you want to live?  Do you know how to create more resilience in your life to help you face and overcome the challenges you face?

Important questions that only you can answer.  If you are in need of some guidance along the way, Dr. Patricia Howe at Business of Life Co. can help.  You may just need a safe space to explore your own dreams, or a retreat for your company to help them remain in touch with your mission and energized by your company's vision.

Inspire all those you touch to reach higher and cherish each moment.  Live in the now and have a memorable first day back to work after the Labor Day Weekend.

As I look back at my prior blogs, they are filled with wonder, hope, struggle, and triumph over the many adversities I have faced during my first month in Tampa.  But this - a category 5 hurricane blasting across the State of Florida?  More than just challenging!

"A gem cannot be polished without friction and a person cannot be perfected without struggle."  I started my day by reading this quote and realized that I must face my fears and all that they unleash.  Fear is a very powerful emotion.  It underlies so many other emotions that are easier to feel.  Anger is often a feeling we use to shield ourselves from fear.  Sadness springs from the well of fear, and anxiety is certainly fueled by fear.

It is normal to fear a hurricane and all the force of its terror.  But it is also important to do what we can to act even in the face of this fear and all the uncertainty it brings.  Yesterday, I got ready for the storm.  I got my needed emergency supplies, printed out the evacuation path I must follow if asked to leave my new home and packed my most essential belongings and irreplaceable pictures of my family and friends.

Fear has two meanings:  Forget everything and run or face everything and rise.  I want to be in the group that rises up to the challenge, fights through the chaos and destruction to be a good neighbor, a good citizen, a listening ear and a mobilizing force during times of crisis in my community.

Hug your children, your spouses, your friends, your pets. Make each moment count. We never really know what lies around the bend.  But a head filled with fear has no place for dreams and people do grow less fearful as they walk together into the fear.

Never lose hope or allow fear to run your life.  Stay safe and "This too shall pass."

In order to transform your life, you have to be willing to for a open yourself up to being part of a natural progression. Pinpoint where you are weak  and you will gain insight into how to steadily rise up and gain a more prominent position by becoming a stronger force. Today I find myself at a hotel, having been under mandatory evacuation, only to return to my home after evacuation to find that the power was out and will probably not be restored until the end of the weekend. And so the trauma continues for hundreds of thousands of Floridians, stranded and feeling tossed about by forces of nature that make us feel we have little control over our lives.

But I have also seen a community rise up to the challenges of Hurricane Irma. Thank you to the employees at the Quik Stop West on South Westshore Blvd, who allowed neighbors without power to charge up there devices, saving ice to hand out to families with children and the elderly. Thank you to the many tireless workers who have struggled through the fear to try to restore power to the City of Tampa, as they struggle through their own private issues with Hurricane Irma. Thank you to the Tampa Police who were able to get the railroad crossing bars disconnected on South Westshore Blvd so that people could get to their homes south of the Quik Stop West! And thank you to the Mayor of Tampa for coming up with an evacuation plan and a plan for restoration of all power throughout Tampa Bay. You are a godsend.

I have to say that pushing through the fear and pressure that Irma created has been a very difficult task. Sometimes I wanted to throw in the towel and give up altogether. I questioned my higher power "Show me a sign that points me in the right direction so I can live through this horrendous act of nature. And my higher power answered, giving me and the other residents of Tampa and the surrounding magnificent coastal area with a breathtaking sunset, a pallet of colors - a view of the glory of nature at her finest.

And so we move forward with our lives, knowing we have been forever changed by the unpredictability of mother nature but with a certainty that we have grown stronger because we survived Hurricane Irma. Please reach out to me if you need support during this time of struggle and uncertainty. I want to volunteer my services to anyone in need of a listening ear who understands the stress that the victims of Hurricane Irma are feeling. Just know that we stayed safe and will come out of this with a true understanding of what it means to be a community.

Take good care and may all our lives be blessed with the healing power of the white light that surrounds us all.

I have survived Hurricane Irma, and now I'm home after one of the most harrowing experiences I have ever faced.  I can image how confused and terrorized the children of the Tampa Bay Area are right now.  I want to do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING possible do to help the families heal and mend after such trauma.

If you are a parent wanting to know what you can do to help your children express and deal with the nightmare of Hurricane Irma, then understand this.  It is hard for children to express their feelings directly.  Using puppets or art work to help children express themselves is very important at this time.  Ask your children to draw a picture of Hurricane Irma and to place themselves in the picture. How is the person feeling?  What colors are being used?  How big is the hurricane in relationship to the child that was put in the picture?

When a child uses a lot of black and red, they are expressing fear, anger and a feeling of being  powerless.  When the storm takes up the whole page and the children show themselves as out of balance or falling from a roof, they are saying, "Help me feel safe. Help me feel empowered. Help me help my family and my friends to feel safe again."

Make up a hurricane family dance.  Children and parents can release a lot of tension by singing and dancing.  Be the wind, the rain, and the sunshine - let them shake away the fear with a wiggle dance

From this point, you can do a family puppet show.  Allow the children to do most of the playing, although the parents can also benefit by expressing themselves through the puppets. It provides a means to distance yourselves from the feelings of helplessness and allows the person who helped to created the scenario in the puppet show feel like they have some control back in their lives.

Go back to any structured schedule you had before the hurricane so that things will feel familiar again.  Watch for signs of nightmares and cuddle with your children, as this also makes both the parents and the children feel grounded and comforted.  Cook the family's favorite foods once you have your power back on and let the children help prepare the meals.  This will also let them feel safer and nurtured.

Never lose hope, because we have weathered the storm. We are survivors and will be changed forever.  I am donating my services to help any family that wants guidance in helping to develop coping skills that will allow them to deal with the current crisis or any crisis that may occur in the future.

Be grateful for what we still have - a community that has risen to the challenge, as neighbors help one another recover from this disaster. We sigh with relief to once again come home.

Take good care and have a blessed day.

As I return home to Tampa, I know I must  live in the moment.  It is the only day that I have for sure.  I must list my priorities which at present means meeting two very handsome gentlemen for dinner.  I have written down my list of the qualities I am looking for:  Tall, dark and handsome, well educated, someone who lives  in the Tampa area and has a killer smile and is lean and muscular.  I am also looking for someone who describes themselves as extremely romantic.  I want someone who gives with all their heart and is looking for a serious relationship that will lead to marriage.

I know that I am ready for an intimate relationship.  I want someone who enjoys adventure, who is quick witted and enjoys holding hands, walking along the beach at sunset and will open his heart to me, as I will to him.  I know that I will feel an instant chemistry when I find "the one."  Someone who loves to travel is another quality I am looking for in a man.  I have seen nearly every state in the Union, visited Cancun, Ixtapa, the Cayman Islands. I wanted to see Key West, but am disheartened by the devastation  that has befallen that city.  I want to dance under the moonlight to slow romantic songs, learn salsa dancing and ride roller coasters.  I love traveling by convertible or motor cycle to see the beauty that surrounds this city.  I want to feel alive!

I have set my intention on finding such a man and will not settle.  How open are you to finding a truly intimate relationship where you can anticipate the needs of the other person with just a look or a sign?  I am very intuitive and can tell instantly if there is a connection.

This Thursday night I am going to my first Bucs game.  What a great date, dining at the Rusty Pelican and then onto the game.  This man has written me emails about what he is looking for in a woman and I seem to have all those qualities.  So wish me luck.  I will write my next blog after the date!

So how open are you to sharing your heart?  Have you written down on paper the qualities you are looking for in a mate?  When you put pen to paper, it draws that kind of person into your life.  Without clear intention, you will meet a lot of frogs.  Here's hoping that you can be clear in the kind of relationship you are looking for and can open your heart to finding that special person.

May your heart be filled with the beauty that surrounds you every day.  Be pure in your intentions, and the universe will reward you in kind.

Take good care and have a blessed day!

Be like the lotus flower:  find the light, grow through the dirt, and always believe in new beginnings.

During the past 7 and half months, I have been like that lotus flower..trying to find the light.  I did find a man of my dreams whom I have been dating ever since we met in October at  the Rusty Pelican.  That first dinner date was followed by a date to the Tampa vs New England  Pro-football game.  We found that we shared a love for sports. going out on the town. Keith never forgets to open doors or pull out my chair for me when being seated..  He holds my hand as we walk to the car, share a sweet kiss as he shuts the car door for me. He is the true light in my life and we share remarkable chemistry.  So the light of a true gentleman did come into my life in October.

But after I found the light of love, the career side of the muck forced me to grow through the unexpected slung of full time retirement.  At first all the time off from work  suited me beautifully.  I went on day trips to the ocean, relaxed in the sun, and tried to keep myself busy. But I kept asking myself "Is this all there is?" "What is my higher purpose?"  I think I needed those last 7 months of solitude, times when I wasn't with Keith, to get to know myself, to learn to like my own company, learn what makes me laugh and cry; what makes me want to retreat or reach out?

By struggling with this puzzling  life twist in my career path,  I finally saw the door open to the career path I had been waiting  for, to my new beginning.  A career now beckons that will recharge my batteries, and get that once stimulating Image of Gulia, the red Alpha Romero, racing towards her destiny - back on the road filled with the inspiration of new hopes, new dreams, new challenges.

I will be working for the Center for Teacher Effectiveness starting July, 2018, coaching teachers and administrators in public and private venues on social emotional learning. By applying the principles of Time to Teach,  research has shown that a classroom can change from a room of misbehaving, out of control students, to ones with students invested in learning, able to self-regulate their challenging behaviors and have empathy for their classmates.

With all the violence in the nation's schools, I believe I have hit on the perfect new path for making a  difference in the lives of children ages 4 years old- 18 year old students, even graduate students. Time to Teach Training reduces  teacher stress brought on by trying to control students' challenging behaviors in the classroom.  The suggestions and philosophy of time to teach gives teachers and families new tools for creating better learning and self-control in the classroom and at home.

I can hear my destiny calling me to the nation's schools where I can bring by knowledge of mental health and educational classroom management to reduce school violence. Wish me luck with my lofty goals! I will keep you posted on this new beginning and path towards fulfilling my higher purpose.

Take good care and have a blessed day!
